Yves Tumor swells on the faded “The Feeling When You Walk Away”

It appears from the shadows, Yves Tumor’s “The Feeling When You Walk Away.” At least at first, as ghostly atmospherics, a looping guitar riff, and reverb-laden vocals slowly fade into view – creating an engrossing world without rising above a whisper. Based out of Turin, Tennesseean Yves Tumor is an enigmatic figure, easy to overlook yet even harder to look straight into. There’s a little Jai Paul in the demoed feel of “Walk Away,” a little Miguel in his vocal registry. But those touchstones do little to acknowledge Yves Tumor’s vitality; as much as he fits into a wider umbrella, there’s nothing out there that engrosses in the ways “The Feeling When You Walk Away” does.

Serpent Music is out September 23 via PAN.
