“Seven Words” is a glowing first glimpse at Weyes Blood’s new LP

A few weeks back, “Suddenly” appeared – a collaboration between Drugdealer and vocalist Natalie Mering of Weyes Blood – a golden, 70s AM transmission that’s as successful because of it’s simple, piano-based instrumental as it is due to Mering’s absorbing vocals. Following that collaborative effort, Weyes Blood is back with an LP of their own. Front Row Seat To Earth is due out October 21 and is led by lead single “Seven Words.” As the song unfurls, a lonely organ is met by an equally forlorn Mering vocal. “It’s starting to hurt,” she laments, finding it hard to look herself in the eye knowing the trouble she’s caused her former flame. As slide guitars wash over the song, Mering floats above the fray, seeking redemption. “I wish I could leave my troubles behind,” she sings, knowing they’re what keeps pushing her forward.
