More than anything, Savages bludgeoning debut LP Silence Yourself was a reminder to tune out, to recognize where one is in relation to their surroundings. Avoid consumption, and give instead. The band’s stunning new single “Adore,” fresh off their forthcoming LP Adore Life, avoids the raging force behind “She Will” and the likes and instead plays with audience expectations of what a Savages track should sound like. That is, until the final moments of the track, as the instrumental builds to a frenzy and lead singer Jehnny Beth repeatedly belts, “I adore life, do you adore life?” While at first it appears to beckon listeners to look at life with a glass-half-full philosophy, it quickly turns into an attack. How could you not adore all of this ugly and beauty, this chaos and reason?
