When Dornik first entered the scene on “Something About You,” the one-time drummer for Jessie Ware appeared to have positioned himself nicely for a big time breakthrough. He received co-signs for the single from Ware and fellow PMR label-mates Disclosure, but then he went away, only dropping the occasional single. That all changes with “Stand in Your Line,” which kicks off the hype cycle for Dornik’s self-titled debut, out August 7. The song begins with a dominant beat while Dornik’s vocals take the form of a cross between Prince, MJ and Usher. The song is ostensibly about Dornik waiting for his moment to woo a love interest, yet after two long years of anticipating his debut, his patience in the record industry is an added subtext to the track. And based off this new single, Dornik’s going to cut right to the front.
