Portland, Oregon producer Dylan Stark’s debut LP Heartland arrives on London’s Civil Music on April 7, and that album’s “Shelter” has just received some breathtaking visuals. On the track, Stark implements a lot of disparate samples, laying them over skittering, restless percussion, before the song explodes into a euphoric blast of old memories. The song appears to settle into a relaxed, reflective rhythm, until the swell returns, driving the song to an affirming peak. On “Shelter,” Stark gives himself the difficult task of using previously recorded material to create something never recorded before. “Shelter” definitively succeeds, as it finds something new to say even when everything’s been said.
