Remember that scathing, brilliant performance from Kendrick Lamar on Colbert? Well, this isn’t that song, but it’s just as volatile and critical towards the systems that pushes down the black community, institutions that make people who look like him “a killer.”
“This black man meant to be special,” exclaims Lamar.
Fame hasn’t assuaged the emcee’s distrust for authority, rather it seems to have reinforced any preconceived notions he may have felt. His rhymes are harder, his flow more determined. After continually being reminded that he’s as “black as the heart of a fucking Aryan,” Kendrick will no longer remain silent. This is what the m.A.A.d. city wrought. It’s time to face the reckoning.
