Hannah Cohen’s new album Pleasure Boy is out in March 2015, but she’s already let go of the album’s lead single, “Keepsake”, an airy, urgent cut that serves as yet another reason to be excited about music in this new year. Vocally, Cohen recalls Lana Del Rey at her most bubbly (e.g. “Brooklyn Baby”), while the sonic backdrop evolves from spacious and free-flowing to claustrophobic and demanding as the percussion grows louder and Cohen’s vocals devolve into coos and onomotopeic sounds. “If I asked you to leave her, would you go,” she asks of her former flame. But you get the feeling that if he reciprocated her feelings, she’d still be on the run.
