Young Thug emerged in late 2013 from Atlanta’s hip-hop machinery, the latest in a long line of compelling MCs to come from the Peach State. On the other end of the spectrum, A$AP Ferg started making waves with the rest of New York’s A$AP Mob, harnessing that city’s ambitious nature into exciting new music. And in this scenario, Freddie Gibbs lies somewhere in the middle, with the Indiana-native first bursting onto the scene nearly a decade ago, while recently gaining a larger profile thanks to significant co-signs and collaborations with the likes of Danny Brown on “The Return”. So while the three aesthetically and musically up until this point had very few similarities, “Old English” is a fantastic new cut that merges these blossoming talents into a thrilling new package, featuring production from Salva and Nick Hook. Altogether, the track marks a perfect synthesis between an icy, hard-hitting beat and the rappers it brought together.
“Old English” is the first single from the forthcoming compilation Mass Appeal Compilation Vol. 1, from Nas’ Mass Appeal label. That album will be released on 2 September. Download “Old English” now, via iTunes.
