CURRENT: The Shins – “So Now What”

The Shins look different now than they did over a decade ago, when Natalie Portman introduced the world to James Mercer’s “life changing” music, after a severe line-up change prior to the band’s fourth LP, Port of Morrow, which saw Mercer as the lone surviving member of the original group. Now, with Zach Braff’s second directorial effort hitting theaters soon, Mercer and his new band of collaborators have provided Wish I Was Here with a stellar musical number, as well as a fantastic addition to an already wonderful discography. While a lot has changed in the 10 years since Garden State, at least Mercer’s ability to craft affecting, sincere pop songs has not diminished in the slightest.
