Do It Again marks the latest of several gems crafted by Norwegian electronica duo Röyskopp and Swedish pop singer Robyn, notably “The Girl and the Robot” off of Röyksopp’s 2009 album Junior, while they also collaborating on Vol. 1 of Robyn’s Body Talk series (2010). With the new EP coming out in a few weeks, slices of the collaboration are coming down the pipeline, including the stellar title-track. For fans of Robyn’s remarkable Body Talk sessions, this newest offering is a breath of fresh, familiar air. “We do what we want / As soon as it’s done / We just do it again,” Robyn emotively sings. What first appears to be a prideful declaration of defiance takes on another life as the song evolves, as Robyn warns her partner, “We should not be friends / We’ll just do it again / If you stay around / We’ll just do it again.” What could have been a one-note affair is actually a multi-dimensional dance-pop track, one that has as many complexities as a real life human relationship. We already knew fembots had feelings, but they have heart, too.
Do It Again is out 26 May via Cherrytree/Interscope.
UPDATE: Stream “Do It Again” above. The song officially premiered on the Annie Mac Show on BBC Radio this past Friday (25 April). An earlier version of this article proclaimed this to be the second collaboration between Röyksopp and Robyn. The error has since been modified.
