Movement has been one of this year’s early revelations, as the Melbourne, Australia trio has pumped new blood (and new perspectives) into the 2010’s blossoming R&B scene. A low-lying pulsating beat introduces the song, before some sampled, spliced vocals and an even lower-lying vocal comes into focus. While the vocals are nearly impossible to make out, they work excellently as a musical instrument, as the heavily effected vocals sink in to the dark sonics surrounding in. Then there’s those piano chords and that guitar solo that sprout up seemingly out of the blue, showing us that the musical world Movement inhabits has far more depth than first imagined.
The debut self-titled EP from Movement is out 6 May in the U.S. via Modular.
