Nicki Minaj returns with another rap performance to add to her hit-list. Young Thug sets the tone with his own bonkers verse and chorus (his chain is “8 feet tall like 2 midgets”), but Nicki is the obvious main attraction. She hits similar lyrical themes she’s played with in the past, but translates them in fresh and thrilling ways. “To raise a child, it might take a village / but I wouldn’t know ’cause these bitches my sons, yes they was and they still is,” goes one memorable line. She also announces her intentions for Mrs. Jessica Timberlake, while throwing down the gauntlet when she raps, “I am not gay, but let’s be precise / If she be pretty than watch her ’cause I be fuckin’ your wife.” She totally owns the conversation about herself and her sexuality, with a fervent confidence in her delivery unlike any contemporary pop/rap/superstar not named Beyoncé.
