Schoolboy Q has been taunting us over the past couple of years with his string of excellent collaborations and singles, including “PMW (All I Really Need)” and “Brand New Guy” (A$AP Rocky), “Cartoons & Cereal” and “Collard Greens” (Kendrick Lamar) and most recently on Danny Brown’s Old (“Dope Fiend Rental”). While he currently is achieving strong radio airplay with his guest spot on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ late 2013 hit “White Walls,” he’s making the case for being one of rap radios most played artists in 2014. The excellent “Man of the Year” just received a video, and he’s offering up another cut from the forthcoming Oxymoron in the form of “Break the Bank.”
“Bank” is an immediate winner, with Q offering up expectedly great verses that pop with a tenacity that rivals his best features. It certainly helps when The Alchemist stops by to assist in the song’s production, as Schoolboy Q is given free reign to wreak havoc on a musical platform that more than fits his grand, oversized personality.
Oxymoron is the West Coast rapper’s third LP, and first under a major label. Interscope Records will oversee the release of Oxymoron, currently set for 25 February 2014.
