CURRENT: Damon Albarn – “Everyday Robots”

While 2D, Murdoc, Russell and Noodle vacation at the Plastic Beach, Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn is keeping himself busy by prepping his, believe it or not, first solo LP. The sometimes Blur frontman just shared the first single and title-track from his forthcoming Everyday Robots, and it does not disappoint.

“We are everyday robots,” Albarn sings at the beginning, over a creaky, wobbly beat. Together, the lyrics and production hint at Albarn’s fears of just how stable humans can be when we’re attached to the hip of our digital gadgets. For a guy that’s made a name for himself with animé-inspired characters and some of the most out-there pop tracks of this century, “Everyday Robots” is perhaps the most left-field he’s ever gone.

Everyday Robots is out 29 April via Warner Bros. Pre-order the album now (via iTunes) and get the title-track immediately.
