Hannah Lew is one-third of Grass Widow, performing bass and helping co-write their tunes, but she performs all songwriting duties with Cold Beat, a new solo project from Lew that has just released its debut EP, Worms / Year 5772 on her own imprint Crime On The Moon. The debut single wastes no time in grabbing a hold of the listener, as it packs a bouncy, stadium-sized chorus that hits early and often. Underneath the good vibrations the music and melody elicits is an undercurrent of fear and loss, as Lew’s father passed away just before “Worms” was written in 2009. But when the music sounds this good, it’s hard to see the negatives in a lot of things.
