Quelle Chris’ excellent new album Ghost At The Finish Line comes out tomorrow (29 October, via Mello Music), and it’s opening track is a compelling opening statement. Chris laments rap industry’s fickle nature, as he raps, “Say I’m your favorite rapper out / But the sales ain’t legit so / The label sounding like schizos / Feeling like I worked from the bottom to the bottom here / And I done seen the bottom of too many bottles here.” The playful nod to Drake’s 2013 juggernaut “Started From The Bottom” wonderfully shows Chris to be well aware of his surroundings, while also distancing himself from his top 40 contemporaries in the process. The Chris Keys production is a revelation, with a looped guitar, reminiscent of In Rainbows-era Radiohead, forming the track’s backbone.
