Washed Out’s Ernest Greene knows exactly what he’s doing. With his fantastic Within and Without (2011) Greene positioned himself smack dab in the center of the chillwave musical movement. For a follow up, Washed Out is doing something similar to that of Youth Lagoon, carving out a wider space for Greene to explore his musical boundaries. “It All Feels Right” could not be more perfectly titled, as the song hits all the right notes on what a fan would expect from Washed Out in 2013. Instead of blowing his sound up and starting at square one, Greene adds subtle touches that provide the song with enough of a feeling of familiarity without sounding like the work of an artist caught in purgatory. With “Right,” Greene has provided us with a song identifiable with his musical namesake yet giving his audience the benefit of the doubt that they are willing to accept the subtle differences that signal Washed Out’s growing sonic palette.
Sub Pop will oversee the release of Washed Out’s second studio album, Paracosm, on 13 August 2013 in the U.S., with Weird World handling distribution duties internationally a day earlier.
